Why Join?

Our workplaces are complex spaces right now where there isn’t always the time nor a desire for the reflective practice that’s needed to be able to think outside the immediate pressures of ‘getting the job done’.

This programme is designed to offer an empowering regenerative and reflective space for you as a woman engaged in workplace leadership and management; to be able to bring workplace issues to the table so you can grow your confidence, courage, impact, and satisfaction as a leader in your own right within an organisation, work setting or your own business.

Through a unique blend of leadership-focussed taught input, experiential group learning, action-learning based groupwork processes, and supportive coaching, the programme will help you to gain the headspace, expertise and tools you need to survive and thrive in today’s challenging world of work.

This programme will focus on supporting you in the context of leadership and management with a absolute belief that you yourself are the leader of you - and so being able to empower, manage and lead yourself more effectively and compassionately is a central goal.

This group is for all women; hetero, queer, nonbinary and trans who lead and/or manage people, strategy, teams, budgets, tasks, functions or projects. Everyone who joins the group will be asked to fill in a brief summary of their current work role and tasks to ensure that the group is evenly balanced. The maximum size for this group will be 8 to ensure everyone gets time and space.

A recent UK survey of cross sector leaders tells us that approximately 90% of public private and non-profit leaders agree that strong leadership is essential to meet the challenges we face right now, yet only approximately 20% of these cross sector leaders receive the training and development they need to deliver on the desire for strong leadership effectively. (Stat from wig.co.uk)

This programme aims to help fill this gap by offering a is a seven-month CPD journey designed to help you grow into the next version of yourself as the leader you want to be — with the expertise, insight, awareness, competence, understanding, skills and clarity of approach you need to thrive in today’s BANI* environment.

BANI is a useful acronym devised in anthropology to support us to understand and accept the world as an unpredicable space that is brittle, anxious, non-linear and incomprehensible. If this is a true description of the ways in which we can view the world as humans and leaders then how can we develop strategies that help us to function and thrive in such an inhospitable environment. These and many more issues will be the topic of this action-learning coaching programme. For more reading on BANI start with this article which I like.

This programme is for you if….

  • You’re an existing leader/manager or recently promoted (in the last year) and are responsible for people or budget, strategy or operations or all of it.

  • You work in the public, private or third sector or you lead your own business, or would like to.

  • You’re seeking a dynamic empowering intelligent space to bring your professional work based challenges for deep reflection discussion and support to enable you to thrive in your leadership - feel more effective and confident.

  • You’ve been in leadership for a while and are ready to reflect upon your progress, embody the role more fully and be more ambitious.

  • You want to grow your leadership and management confidence so you can accomplish your role with greater boldness and impact.

  • You are juggling multiple complex roles at work and home and would value a space to process this.

  • You are keen to discuss, disrupt and dispel any limiting beliefs you might have about your leadership and management capabilities.

  • You want to drill down into your core values and leadership and explore how you deliver these in your work given the enormous socio-economic challenges.

  • You are seeking an empowerment-based facilitated learning space to bring leadership challenges to so these can be processed, solutions generated, reflected and acted upon.

There are three central perspectives to the approach of this coaching programme.

1. We will take an outward ACTION facing and forward thinking approach to all leadership dilemmas and challenges; so that looking up, out and ahead is held as an important direction of travel in leadership.

2. Alongside this we will be mindful and forensic in making sure that our internal world; our intuition, our leadership mindset, our psychological energetic and somatic states are also central to our growing awareness of ourselves as ‘Bold Leaders’. Holding this 'inner and outer’ double lens will help to offer a rich terrain and grounded space from which to grow.

3. Finally, all group work and leadership analysis will take place within a lens of the personal, the professional and the systemic so that we become accustomed to knowing when and how it is our responsibility to act and when the system needs to shift and when there is a crossover approach needed. These lenses help is to navigate both the strategic and operational nature of leadership.

  • Initially set bold expansive intentions about the ways in which you want to improve your leadership; you will create your own learning plan and be encouraged to bring relevent real time work issues to the group to be discussed and ‘composted’

  • Broaden and deepen your overall emotional intelligence and professional perspective with a wide range of practical leadership and management tools and mindset development thinking so you can lead, collaborate and influence with greater impact confidence and satisfaction.

  • Deepen your sense of confidence in your ability to deal with anything that lands on your desk; complex management/leadership, conflictual conversations, organisational or business issues and dilemmas.

  • Work with the other group members to gain clarity on your leadership values and an understanding of your unique leadership style and approach. Everyone will fill out the eco-leadership questionnaire* to understand your unique style of leadership.

  • See changes in the way you think strategically to enhance your continual development

  • Receive guidance on ethical leadership and decision-making strategies and new ways to bring in creative problem-solving ideas and tools.

  • Gain increased personal joy from your work and a greater sense of personal purpose and understanding of yourself as a leader.

  • Grow an expanded professional network of peers who will cheer you on

What makes this programme unique?

This programme is definately not just about leadership and management in theory. What makes this programme different is that at the beginning of our work together you will get the opportunity to clarify your own individual intentions for your leadership and we will co-create the curriculum with your own specific learning needs in mind.  In this way each session of the programme will be designed for real-world application with a community of like-minded women ready to grow together.

It is likely that each session will be themed to underscore some of the classic dilemmas and complexities of current leadership; for example issues such as planning and strategy in times of unknowns, dealing with systemic conflict, fostering innovation with less resources while maintaining stability, ‘bottom line ethics’ in leadership and how to make difficult choices that impact on people and performance etc.

In addition to this my multi-layered approach to action-learning via intersectionality, leadership theory, and a combination of coaching psychology and energetic and somatic modalities makes this programme unique and will enable each participant to learn a wider range of approaches to creative thinking and problem solving.

*The Eco-leadership Questionnaire by Dr Simon Western will be cascaded to all particpants at the beginning of the programme.  This will help to support you to understand the style of leadership you most exhibit - where the issues may lie in this for you and ways you can develop your approach.

Testamonial

‘For anyone in my network looking to work with an exceptional coach I can't recommend Kelly enough. She has helped me tremendously for over a year to transform into a better leader and, I'm hoping, a better person both at work and beyond it too. On top of this she is just genuinely an amazing and inspiring person to be around.’

What's exciting and different about this programme?

 - It is based on my 40 years of professional expertise of working as a leader and manager in the widest range of settings; from CQSW/MA training as a Social Worker, to working in Community mental health, Rape Crisis and Probation, and as a successful CEO of a National volunteering organisation (Home Office funded) in my ‘paye’ career. As a freelance consultant I set up my own business in 2002 and since then I have worked with and alongside the widest range of leaders and managers as a executive coach, consultant and specialist adviser. I’ve worked with well over 150 different organisations at all levels; the DfEE and Government, Unicef UK, The National Trust, The LGBT Consortium, the YMCA movement, many small community based agencies and charities - local and international. I am a renowned speaker and activist and have been awarded for my leadership of teams and strategies.

- After having three kids as a solo mum in my 40’s I led the Newham National Childbirth Trust Branch to national award winning status as a beacon of best practice. I have coached and collaborated with literally 1000’s of people over the past 40 years supporting to be the best they can be via an exciting range of consultancy, organisational and groupwork offerings. Some recent examples include my Arty Mummas Art therapy programmes, Non-Managerial Supervision, Creative Coaching, Executive Coaching and using many other styles. All my work is delivered via an intersectional empowerment trauma-informed framework and I also integrate somatic with energetic and transpersonal approaches in all of my work. Having been a client in psychoanalysis for some 25 years, this also impacts my work with people as I am drawn to the ways in which the ‘less conscious’ is at play in all we do. Most recently I have been working with Architecture00 and JAP Projects developing Action Learning Programmes for the GLA High Street Network; alongside this I also have a thriving group work and 1:1 coaching practice.

- Helping people like you to move forward and to be better equipped for leadership is one of my loves. I am passionate about ensuring that all women leaders have the support and back-up to succeed in this modern day ‘wild west’ workplace culture. I offer spaces that are regenerative and responsive. I have run groups for many years, am in clinical supervision and committed to working with a diversity and trauma-informed framework to ensure groups are safe fun and growthful spaces.

- My mission is to help people face the big challenges and questions that being in leadership inevitably raises. The time we have is limited and so living our working lives with purpose has huge benefits not only for us - but also for our families, our relationships, our community, our systems and ultimately the planet.

The better we can be at ‘good leadership and leadership for good’ - the better for ALL of us.

“This action learning programme helped me truely rediscover my voice and step into my style of leadership with greater inner and outer confidence.” – SD Senior Strategy Leader

“The tools I’ve gained about how to translate my visions into practice have transformed how I lead and communicate - thank you.” – ML Senior Project Manager

“I have really appreciated the space to focus on developing my emotional intelligence - there’s never the time in the work place so to be able to step out and take time to reflect has been really beneficial - thanks” MR Architect

“I really believe that what Kelly doesn’t know about isn’t worth knowing - she’s a real life creative guru but without all the pomp and ego. She seems to have resources and ideas at her fingertips… always! “ DG ex-CEO and freelance consultant
